Goblin Market

35cm High £1080(Copy)
"They trod and hustled her,
Elbowed and jostled her,
Held her hands and squeezed their fruits
Against her mouth to make her eat.
White and golden Lizzie stood,
Though the goblins cuffed and caught her,
coaxed and fought her.
Lizzie uttered not a word;
Would not open lip from lip
Lest they should cram a mouthful in".
Goblin Market – Christina Rossetti

From Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, "The ghost of Jacob Marley" was commissioned by a successful businessman’s wife! Others are content to present us with a weird and wonderful entity.

The Ghost of Jacob Marley

"Marley in his pigtail,...tights and boots; the tassels ...bristling, like his pigtail, and his coat-skirts, and the hair upon his head.  The chain...was clasped about his middle.  It was long, and wound about him like a tail; and it was made... of cash-boxes, keys, padlocks, ledgers, deeds and heavy purses wrought in steel".'
